Cybersecurity Camp

Summer 2019 Cybersecurity Camp- Poulsbo

Western Washington University is offering a free Cybersecurity Camp this Summer 2019 for both teachers and middle-school students. 

Location: Olympic College Poulsbo and the SEA Discovery Center in Poulsbo

 

Student Cybersecurity Camp

Dates: Choose July 22-26 or July 29-August 2, 2019 (Mon – Fri), 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Cost: Free!

Ages: Middle School students (entering grades 6, 7, or 8 in Fall 2019)

Limit: 30 students per week

Students will be taught Cybersecurity First Principles by WWU program staff assisted by a cohort of teachers.  The camp will include a field trip to the WWU SEA Discovery Center aquarium in Poulsbo where students will explore cyber security themes and principles in a hands-on marine environment, and get an opportunity to see technology in action including building water weather platforms as part of a community science project.

 

 

Teacher Cybersecurity Camp

Dates: July 15-19, 2019 (Mon-Fri)
Time: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Plus participation in 2 four-hour sessions of the middle school camp (July 22-August 2)

Cost: Free, teachers will receive 40 STEM clock hours & a stipend

Limit: 24 participants

Week 1, July 15-19, 2019: Teachers will learn about Cybersecurity First Principles, techniques for teaching those principles, and practice developing lesson plans that incorporate the First Principles. Teachers will practice what they have learned and assist with the delivery of their lesson plans to middle school students in Part 2 of the program.
 
Part 2, July 22-26 and July 29-August 2, 2019: 
Each Teacher participant will spend two half days over the course of two weeks assisting at the middle school camp and applying the lessons they learned during the teacher camp.  This will give teachers an opportunity to see their lesson plans in action, as well as to be observed and receive feedback from the program staff. Teachers will participate in 2 four-hour sessions of the middle school camp.
 
This camp includes a field trip each week to the WWU SEA Discovery Center in Poulsbo where Teachers and students will explore cybersecurity themes and principles in a hands-on marine environment, and get an opportunity to see technology in action including building water weather platforms as part of a community science project.
