Barbara Ellen Maguire Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship endowment (fund) is to provide support for students who have financial need and are pursuing academic work in research, internships, or summer projects in the behavioral neurosciences, health sciences including pre-medicine, or computer sciences. The scholarship is to be awarded alternately by the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Engineering or their designees. It shall be awarded in even years by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and in odd years by the College of Sciences and Engineering. The recipient will be pursuing academic work in research, an internship, or summer project, and the recipient must have a financial need. The fund may be used to pay any costs related to educational expenses, including, but not limited to, tuition, books, materials, supplies, etc. The expenditures will be the responsibility of Western Washington University, acting through the designee of the President of the University. The current designee is to alternate between the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Dean of the College of Science and Engineering. The designee may be altered as needed for proper administration of the Fund. Any remaining and unawarded scholarship funds at the end of each fiscal year shall return to the endowment principal.

Award:

  • 1 @ $1,600 (2018-19)
  • Rotates between the CSE (odd years) and CHSS (even years)

Criteria:

  • Undergraduate student or graduate student
  • For a student majoring or in a CSE major related to behavioral neuroscience, health science, or computer science.
  • Recipient will be pursuing academic work in research, an internship, or summer project
  • Each department nominate one student
